Artist portrait, 2024

Erik Sille

A portrait of painter Erik Sille in Tokyo, made at YF for the launch of his video The Immense Calm.

Notes

Erik talks about the city’s relentless pulse and the calm he finds in its parks, the yōkai art that opened new doors for him, and the darker stories he hides inside bright, pop-coloured paintings. The film cuts between him, Tokyo by day and at night, the old prints he talks about and his own work on the studio wall.

It was directed by Carla Castillo and produced by Brano Beres. Jayce Ong and I shot it, and I did the edit, the colour and the sound.
